The future of Europe

In Denmark the European Affairs Committee of the Folketing has had the main responsibility for organizing the EU-debate in the reflection pause.

At the European Council on 16-17 June 2005, Heads of State or Government called for a period of reflection following the two no-votes on the Constitutional Treaty in France and the Netherlands.

The European Affairs Committee of the Folketing has had the main responsibility for organizing the EU-debate in Denmark.

Under the heading, Citizens' Agenda, the European Affairs Committee has cooperated with a number of EU-movements and organisations about the creation of a constructive framework for the Danish debate during the reflection pause.

During the reflection pause in spring 2005 a number of debates and events have taken place in Denmark. One of the biggest events was a public hearing on Europe arranged by the Folketing.
