It rests with the Council to decide the order in which the Member States will hold the Presidency. The current order was adopted by the Council in 1995 (link to the decision)
Following the enlargement in 2004 the Council gave its political approval to a draft order for the presidencies from 2007 until 2020.
The order in which the Member States will hold the Presidency of the Council as from 1 January 2008 is as follows:
