COSAC is a meeting forum for committees of the national parliaments dealing with European affairs in the EU countries and candidate countries as well as representatives from the European Parliament a European committee in the national parliaments in the EU countries and the candidate countries, together with members of the European Parliament.
The aim of COSAC meetings is to disseminate information on the work of the EU. Subjects discussed in the meetings may included topical issues in the EU and more general topics such as the role of national parliaments in the EU, the principle of subsidiarity, transparency in the EU, etc.
Since 1989, COSAC has held meetings twice a year, based on the premise that COSAC should meet once under each presidency. Meetings typically last 1½ days and the parliament of the country holding the presidency is responsible for arranging the meeting and preparing an agenda.
The meetings take place in collaboration with the COSAC Secretariat. The COSAC Secretariat is based in the European Parliament building in Brussels and consists of the permanent official, an official from the European Parliament and officials from the countries holding the former, current and future presidencies.
